Middleton, Idaho
Although it isn’t a large town, Middleton has a much longer history than much of Idaho. It was the oldest settlement in Canyon County and was named “Middleton” due to its location. It was the midpoint between Keeney’s Ferry and old Fort Boise. Because of its location, Middleton was a resting stop for people traveling from one place to another, Middleton officially became an incorporated town in 1910.
Middleton is 20 miles west of Boise within the Boise Metropolitan Area. Like much of the area, it is rapidly growing and has tripled in size since 2000. At the present time, Middleton has one traffic light, though that will change as road improvements continue. They also have two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. What is Middleton Middle School was the high school until 2007, when almost 80% of the school burned to the ground. The school was rebuilt and turned into the middle school and a new, modern high school was built down the road.
Middleton hosts an annual Independence Day parade and celebration with a full calendar of events. It also has several nice parks including the ever-expanding Piccadilly Park across the street from the middle school, Middleton Place Park, and Centennial Grove Park. Middleton is a short drive from Caldwell and Nampa, so the residents can easily enjoy the amenities from those areas.
