About Kuna, Idaho
Kuna, Idaho is located on the Snake River plain in Ada County in southwest Idaho and is within the Boise Metropolitan Area. The area was originally settled by the Bannock and Nex Perce Native American tribes. The first non-natives in the area were fur traders, but the area was hot and arid, so few chose to settle there. Then, in the 1860’s, gold was discovered in the area. This was followed by a train station that was named “Kuna”. This brought more people to the region, until the tracks were diverted to Nampa several years later. Kuna’s existence was threatened by the loss of the railroad, but in 1909, irrigation was introduced to the area, making the dry, parched soil fertile. Once water was available, Kuna became fully established and was here to stay.
Like much of Idaho, Kuna is growing by leaps and bounds. It tripled its population between 2000 and 2010 and grew by more than 50% from 2010 and 2020. Kuna has everything the rest of Idaho has to offer including an abundance of outdoor activities, low crime rate, and low unemployment in addition to having the most affordable housing market in the area.
Kuna is also located right next to the Snake River Canyon and Dedication Point, with its breathtaking views. The canyon is also a bird of prey conservation area. There is also Celebration Park, Idaho’s first archeological park filled with Native American petroglyphs, some of which are over 10,000 years old, and let’s not forget the Kuna Caves, formed by early volcanic activity in the area. Kuna is a hidden Idaho gem worth discovering.
